Thule Revolver

Thule's Revolver carries up to 4 bikes and swings to the side for quick and easy access to the rear of your vehicle. Thule's No Sway Cages prevent bike-to-bike contact and the integrated locking cable makes sure your bikes are safe. The arms fold down for easy rack storage, too.

    Comments:

I purchased the Thule Revolver model bike rack in 2011. I believe the Revolver model has since been discontinued and replaced with the very similar Thule 9027 Apex Swing model.I intended to use the "four bike" rack with four bikes - One women's 17" and one man's 17" multi-use type bikes and two women's small to medium size mountain type bikes. I quickly came to the very frustrating realization that while this rack can potentially "carry up to 4 bikes", it is not an easy task loading or pretty situation when jamming all four bikes onto the rack. I was more than disappointed to learn that it is, in my experiences and opinion, impossible to fit four bikes on this rack without incurring aesthetic/physical damage to the bikes. There simply is not enough spacing on the rack to prevent multiple points of bike to bike contact. I spent hours and many iterations of loading/unloading bikes trying for the best possible fits, always with the same results of multiple points of bike to bike contact. I also purchased and tried "frame adapters" commonly recommended for women's bike frames to facilitate the process. These items did not improve the situation. The tight spacing between four bikes basically renders the patented "No-Sway Cages" as un-necessary, as they cannot "prevent" bike to bike contact in most four bike situations. If you are okay with spending your time manipulating a bicycle puzzle and cramming bikes onto a rack, and you do not mind scuffing up nice bikes, then you'll probably be satisfied with this rack. If you value your time, and your bikes' paint job, then I'd strongly suggest you try it with your bikes before you buy it and become more frustrated. Please note if you do some internet research on this type of product you will not likely find a video demonstrating anyone getting four bikes on this rack. Sales pitches show demonstrations of one bike placed on the rack with ease and the rack nicely swings and/or pivots as it was designed to do.Just be aware of the practical use and limitations of this rack before you spend a lot of money on a product that may frustrate and disappoint you. While I like the Thule products for the solid, well-built construction, I am deeply disappointed with the practical functionality of the "four bike" claims that Thule makes for this rack. Also, I am strongly doubtful that the new "arc design" of the latest model 9027 Apex Swing type rack arms will provide sufficient clearance to prevent bike to bike contact. It would be very helpful if Thule could post a demonstration video for loading four typical, average, standard bikes onto these racks. So, before you spend your money, I encourage you to personally try loading the rack of your choice with your bikes to ensure you are satisfied with the experience before you own and live with the situation.

Works great on trips with the family to load all of our bikes! You need a full size hitch to attach the bike rack, not just the small 1 and 1/4 inch hitch.
